2017 was an exciting year in the history of smartphone technology. With groundbreaking gadgets like iPhone X and Samsung galaxy s8 and 8 plus, what else would have been the ideal definition of an exciting year?

As 2018 unfolds gradually, Smartphone brands are bound to come up with amazing gadgets yet again whose features are bent to be a new or improved version of the older ones so as to satisfy the raging hunger of their customers to see new and amazing features on phones.

This is a game of “innovate” or go home bankrupt.

I was going to start by mentioning new features to expect on these new phones but on a second thought I gave up on that and choose the path to just go on and expose the list and include these features within the sections for the individual phones.

iPhone X1:

There has always been something new and exciting coming from Apple every blessed year and that device will trend all through to the next year, then when another iPhone shows up, it takes the show away from the previous one.

Sounds more like a relay race.

What does 2018 hold for Apple? Nobody knows for sure but based on the OMG features that came with iPhone X, you may either be expecting something new from Apple or an improved version of the features already on iPhone X.

Whatever the change will be, it’s sure going to put and keep the waves in motion for a very long time after its release.

Meanwhile, the iPhone X was for Apple’s celebration of 10years working on iPhones and Apple has confirmed that it has laid a foundation where Apple will build its iPhones for the next 10 years.  So, don’t expect a new design from Apple, iPhone X1 might be the same phone design with iPhone X with so many features taking from it but running an improved version.

Rumors have it that the iPhone X1 or whatever it will be called will move from a stainless-steel back to aluminum and it will maintain the 19:9 display and will still use face id instead of touch id but on a home button, unlike the iPhone X.

iPhones normally launches pretty late into the year and the iPhone X1 is expected to launch around April 9th.

Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+

There are already so many rumors out there on this phone. As usual, everybody will always have his/her own thing about the forthcoming Galaxy until it shows up in reality and makes it bare which rumor was correct or not.

Samsung had a great year in 2017, unlike 2016 where the battle debacle on Galaxy Note 7 sent them into depression.

We are bound to expect more from Samsung Galaxy S9 and S9+. One feature we are sure about this device will be the under-display touch id. Will Samsung finally show us the foldable smartphone they’ve been working on since 2013 with this device? Nobody knows for sure but that will be quite exciting if I can fold my smartphone up like it’s a piece of paper.

Sony Xperia XZ2

Sony has been pulling attention in the smartphone industry since its separation from Ericsson in the year 2005. The Xperia line of phones has always been the devices powering the engine that is pulling Sony forward in this severe competition.

This new phone calls for the need for a change in Sony’s Xperia smartphone design. Its predecessors have a history of having an Ominibalance design which is slowly fading away with time.

This time, the Sony Xperia XZ2 might be a bezeless smartphone with a 5.48-inch Full HD resolution display.  With the latest Snapdragon 845 and double 12-megapixel camera lenses at the rear and a 15-megapixel on the front.

HTC U12

HTC U11 was a rockstar in 2017, the device was lit and the fact that you can just squeeze on the edge of the device to use some features made it more awesome.

HTC is promising more with the U12 or whatever it may be called. The rumors are quite high, but we are not here to talk about rumors, we are here to talk about facts that we are sure will come along with the phone.

The most amazing thing we know about HTC now is that HTC U12 will feature dual rear cameras. This is a bit of sliding backward to feel more and compete like a flagship Smartphone in 2018 considering HTC was the first brand to feature dual rear cameras on its HTC One M8. The next thing is the render that appeared to show that the device is bezel while on the U11, a huge part of the display was chop in with bezels.

Meanwhile, HTC has added the HTC U11+ to its line of phones for 2018. I bet the year goes down well with them.

LG G7

The South Korean Samsung neighbors have something cool under their sleeves for 2018. The G series has so far been an amazing line of smartphones with each flagship tagging along closely and competing effectively with other smartphones from other Brands.

LG got it all bad last year after Samsung pushed them into a tight corner when they had to decide whether to launch the G6 earlier with an older processor or wait for Qualcomm to complete serving Samsung with the latest Snapdragon 835 chips (Samsung holds exclusive rights on the first batch of chips from Qualcomm) which were used on the Galaxy S8.

They finally chose the former and launched earlier with an older processor and that decision recoiled back on them when their sales on G6 went drastically low immediately the neighbors released their Galaxy S8 with a faster processor.

Now with access to the newer processor they missed and the latest Snapdragon 845 available, LG is in the rush to update its flagship therefore, fans should expect the G7 soon.

So, what will the design look like? Let’s expect a combination of metal and glass on the body. Also, let’s not rule out the probability to find its fingerprint sensor moved from the back to the display (under the display). Of course, that feature is a race and somebody must win the honor of the first implementation.

We should also expect the Smartphone to come with the latest Snapdragon 845 processor. LG will not afford to be pushed into a tight corner again just like last year.

Samsung Galaxy Note 9

The Note 8 solved a huge problem for Samsung and that’s to show the fans that Samsung has truly found its way around batteries. I wonder the type of death the Note series would have died if by the end of 2016 reports about Note 9 blowing up in flames starts showing up across the world, it would have been a cold painful death.

Generally, Samsung Galaxy Note 8 is a very nice phone and was welcomed properly by fans. From its S pen which shows it’s a Note device to its least feature, Note 8 was lit and according to an interview with Samsung spokesperson, he stated that Galaxy Note’s development team are already set out to bring the next Note device to life. It will be coming with new enhanced features and an improvement on the S Pen.

The Samsung Galaxy Note 9 will be unveiled in late August 2018, just keep your hands crossed and wait for it.

Nokia 9

Nokia under HMD had a great start and finish in 2017. It did deliver on the 5 new devices it promised by this time last year but this is a new year and a new battle begins, coupled with the fact that they still have to prove to their fans that they can still be the old Nokia that ruled the Smartphone industry years back.

Nokia 8 was cool but Nokia still needs some improvements to do, they might achieve that using the Nokia 9 by improving more on display, at least adopt an 18:9 aspect and also introduce waterproofing while keeping their metal body.

Keeping the Zeiss partnership going with LG might give birth to a better camera on the Nokia 9. The camera will still support the bothie function out of the box, although the camera function can be downloaded on other Android devices now.

According to Nokia, this smartphone should be expected by early 2018.

Huawei P20

Huawei has been one step ahead of its competitors in China, only rivaled by Xiaomi, Oppo, and Vivo. While P10 was accused was having a bad display, the P11 was a head spinner and they are bound to keep the flag flying with the P20.

There is just so much said about this device just that it might be launched at Mobile World Congress 2018, it will feature a 3D face scanning feature which will have the capacity to compete with iPhone X’s Face ID

But the naming convention Huawei adopted is weird, why will they be skipping forward all the way from P11 to P20?
