In what seemed to be a surprising heartbreak for Samsung users, the South Korean smartphone giant has announced that it will be ceasing updates for the Galaxy S6 lineups.

While so many users hold their S6 phones dear, they will be missing out on any new security updates starting now into the future.

According to Samsung’s security website, they are done dishing out security updates to Galaxy S6, Galaxy S6 Edge, Galaxy S6 Edge+, and Galaxy S6 Active.

Galaxy S6, which was Samsung’s flagship in 2015, the Galaxy S6 lineup was released with Lollipop, but through a series of updates over the past couple years, it appears the phone will be laid to rest on Android 7 Nougat. As for security updates, this series should be running February’s security patch, which isn’t bad at all. That’s nearly three years of patches.

Because these phones won’t see any new security updates or major OS updates, it may be time to upgrade to a more recent Samsung Galaxy smartphone. Just pick anyone that best fits your budget. And if budgets ain’t your problem, you know…the Otedola kind of people, then grab the new Samsung Galaxy S9.
