Can you remember MWC 2018 when Vivo showcased its most ambitious smartphone with in-display fingerprint scanner? It’s a 91.2% screen to body ratio and a retractable front camera module with the name of Vivo Apex.
The Vivo Apex pulled alot of attention and raised so many eyebrows because of its unique features that brings to reality what other brands are still trying to figure out how to implement on their flagship.
After sometime, while the features remain the same, the smartphone has got a new name — Vivo Nex — and it just launched in China.
In the course of last few weeks before its launch, several leaks of the smartphones from images to hands-on videos gave us a glimpse of the phone.
There are two variants of Vivo Nex available, and both Nex A and Nex S.
They both have a Funtouch OS 4.0 on the top of Android 8.1 Oreo with Vivo’s new Energy UI with red coloured theme.
Specwise, The two phones sports
a 6.59-inch full HD+ super Amoled display which gives you a perfect screen real estate.
The main flagship variant runs Qualcomm’s flagship processor, Snapdragon 845 coupled with 8GB of RAM and the other variant is powered by Snapdragon 710 and 6GB of RAM.
Camerawise, both the variants have a 12MP+5MP dual rear camera and 8MP F2.0 retractable front camera.
The front facing camera which is one part of the phone that’s so spectacular. It was built into a pop up mechanical part that slides in and out.
It’s nature raises doubts about its durability but the build looks strong and when you take a closer look you will see that it looks like something that might stand the test of time, although only time will tell.
The smartphone also includes Vivo’s Jovi AI assistant that boasts of features such as NLU (natural language understanding), ASR (automatic speech recognition), emotion detection, text-to-speech, and others. The smartphones will also come with a dedicated button for this Jovi AI assistant button.
The smartphone has a whopping 256GB of onboard storage to store files with no support for external SD card and 4000mAh battery.
The Snapdragon 710 SoC variant phone will have a rear-mounted fingerprint scanner while the flagship variant will have an in-display fingerprint scanner.
Vivo Nex is botherless on its three sides and a small bottom chin.
Vivo is using a technology called “Screen sound casting” which makes it able for the earpiece to be placed under the display. It was built to leverage screen vibrations through a micro-vibration unit to generate the sound.
Vivo Nex A with 6GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage has been priced at CNY 3,898 (roughly $609).
Meanwhile the Vivo Nex S with 8GB RAM + 128GB inbuilt storage will be available at CNY 4,498 (roughly $703) and the 8GB + 256GB inbuilt storage variant has been priced at CNY 4,998 (roughly $781).
Both smartphones will be available in Black and Red colour variants, though the top-end 8GB RAM/ 256GB storage variant will only be available in Black. They will go on sale from June 23.
